Black women blazing a trail in Essex…

February 2022

It’s Sunday 27th February and I returned home buzzing from a fantastic hike with some amazing Essex based Black women who are also members of Black Girls Hike UK. I say hike, it was a really a brilliant enhanced walk to be technically correct!!!!

Today’s walk covered the East Brookend Country Park and Beam Valley Country Park. Now just how my neighbouring borough of Barking and Dagenham kept this little gem hidden from me, I will never know…but I have to let that one go, especially as I have lived in Newham for nearly 30 years (rolls eyes!!!).

So back to the walk. It was an absolutely glorious day on all fronts – the weather, the company and the terrain. We couldn’t ask for better conditions really. Even storm damage couldn’t stop us in our tracks!

I would highly recommend this walk to anyone interested in exploring local green spaces. London is such a huge metropolis and sometimes its lovely to escape the concrete jungle every once in while!

Even storm damage couldn’t stop us in or tracks!

We covered over 10 miles and my app reliably informed me that I burnt over 2400 calories, which isn’t bad going for a Sunday afternoon stroll!!!

The Essex ladies also arranged a walk to Heybridge Basin in Maldon, Chelmsford back in January. It was simply superb and the weather was once again spectacular!

Highlights of the Heybridge Basin walk are below.
